The 22nd of April: Dive for Earth Day 2010

Project AWARE Foundation: Dive for Earth Day 2010

Calling All Divers and Water Enthusiasts: Dive for Earth Day, April 2010

Human activity is costing the earth. Despite the ocean's vast expanse our actions are taking a toll on aquatic ecosystems. But you can celebrate Earth Day's 40th Anniversary and take action at your local Dive for Earth Day event during the week of 22 April.

What can you do this Dive for Earth Day?

•Organize: Jump on the Dive for Earth Day map. Register online, display your event details for local volunteers, receive free tools and materials for your community activity.
•Volunteer: Dive in this April 22nd. Search for global events and choose a conservation activity in your area at projectaware.org
•Donate: Give the gift of conservation. Your support contributes to ongoing research, grass-roots conservation and data collection projects to protect our fragile underwater resources worldwide.

"Project AWARE is celebrating this, the 40th anniversary of Earth Day by providing resources which empower people to take action and collect data to help improve our planet."
- Jenny Miller Garmendia, Director, Project AWARE Foundation.

Underwater environments are under numerous threats including pollution, debirs, climate change, overfishing, and coral bleaching. Dive for Earth Day is an extraordinary opportunity to take action and help address the underwater issues that concern you most.

Earth Day has raised environmental awareness on a global scale for forty years. For ten years divers have put the ocean on the Earth Day map. Globally the oceans cover seventy per cent of the planet's surface and contain ninety per cent of the mass of life on earth. Thousands of dive volunteers in more than 115 countries have helped protect underwater environments and educate local communities for Project AWARE's Dive for Earth Day
